Why choose Spectrum?

For the last ten years, we, at Spectrum have been providing support to Perth Students aspiring careers in Medicine and Dentistry, delivering outstanding results, by conducting UCAT weekly classes and Mock MMIs.

We noticed over the last 2 years that a majority of students miss the opportunity to score their true potential score in CASPER exam due to non-academic factors. It is essential to score highly in the CASPER exam to get a Curtin Medical School interview, and this is something a lot of students have been struggling with due to CASPER being a new style of exam without a clear marking key. However, with proven results from our tutors, we are able to help you prepare to score highly in CASPER and secure a Curtin Medical School interview.

How does the Spectrum CASPER program work?

Our coaching methodology is conventional and unique (Student centric, face to face with the tutor in real time in a classroom). This ensures students become confident with giving spoken responses, so that they feel much more confident during the real CASPER test. If students get used to practicing online and without someone critiquing them, they will not be used to the same pressure that the CASPER test will put them under.

The Spectrum CASPER preparation program is specifically focussed on assessing the following ten non-academic attributes:

In our coaching and testing model, we provide a highly competitive peer group in presence of skilled CASPER instructors, who are highly accomplished university students.

Our classroom instruction material is unique and developed by professionals, alongside students who have excelled in CASPER, in order to ensure immersive experiential learning.

We give in class handouts and homework assignments every day.

Class materials are exclusive to enrolled students.

Our exclusive CASPER program is designed to be completed in 2 weeks (July 5th to July 20th) to help students develop a competitive edge by a well-paced schedule that allows time for School semester-end exams.

Each daily class consists of 1.5 hours of intensive instruction for 10 days which includes time for students to ask questions.

Spectrum CASPER sessions are an ideal complement to your UCAT prep and other school work.

In addition to this, our students also get an exclusive opportunity to:

– Discuss CASPER acing strategy face to face with our tutors This gives an edge over students who prepare online.

– Trial different strategies and determine the most effective approach.

–  Learn about faster and more effective ways to ace CASPER from our tutors.

Frequently Asked Questions

(For Perth based students targeting medicine courses in Australia)

1. What is CASPER?

CASPer stands for Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics.

This assessment is essentially a Situational Judgment Test. This means that rather than testing technical understanding like the UCAT, or achievements and communication skills like the interview, the CASPer attempts to analyse your capacity to make effective and ethical decisions in the health care workplace. The scenarios that you may be asked to respond to are similar in nature to certain MMI questions. The range of CASPer online test content is broad.

For Curtin University’s Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program in Perth, all applicants must take the Casper test.

2. Do UWA and other Australian Universities use CASPER for medicine admission?

UWA doesn’t need CASPER. Homework assignments are given to take home. CASPER in-class training material is prepared by experienced content developers and is covered by copy right issues which restrict usage only for in-class learning. Hence this in-class material cannot be shared outside the class room.

6. Can we buy Spectrum CASPER material?

Spectrum Knowledge Consultants (SKC) does not sell the CASPER material. The material is designed for in-class learning.

7. Does SKC provide private individual tutoring?
No. We believe in-class learning with a small group under guidance of experienced tutor is the best way to develop and enhance the CASPER skills.

SKC has a defined process for enrolling tutors. Our tutors are experienced and are university students who cracked and scored high scores in CASPER.

July 2025 is the first time that Spectrum is conducting CASPER training program with an experienced Tutor. Several students have secured Curtin Interview invites based on the teachings of the CASPER tutor we have.

10. After enrolments can we switch between sessions / venues?
CASPER program is a two-week program that is held during the July 2025 school holidays at one venue (Shenton College).

11. Why is Spectrum fee higher than online courses?
Spectrum CASPER model is based on face-to-face training in person and allows opportunity for students to ask questions. When one student asks a question, the entire small group is benefitted by the Tutor explanation. This methodology is a proven success formulae that students learn.

12. Why do you combine Y-11 and Y-12?
We believe that most competitive students should sit together and compete against each other. Each student brings in a different perspective.

13. I am in Year 11 now, if I re-do the program next year, will the content be the same?
In terms of the theory involved, it will remain the same unless the CASPer test changes. This is because there is no need to change a working strategy to answering the questions. However, it is still worthwhile doing both years as the questions in the Spectrum booklets and teaching will be changed every year. This way, if you attend in year 11 and in year 12, you get a wider range of questions to practice from.

14. Do you provide guidance for Medicine interviews?
Yes. We do. The details are posted on our website in early November. Over the years we have gotten outstanding results for our MMI coaching sessions. We do provide support for structured interviews as well.

15. Is it possible to enrol at the centre?
For administrative reasons, all enrolments are handled through the online portal. In rare circumstances, walk-ins are permitted at the test centre. In such instances, the student needs to hand in a sheet with names of student, parent, both contact numbers and both email addresses and a written statement that the on-line enrolment will be completed on the same day.
