Future Medicine Students Orientation Program

(Theory and Practical)

This program is for Perth based high school students who are in Year-10 in 2020.

This new unique face to face program is designed to support high school students in Perth who are seriously considering a career path way into health sciences (Medicine, Dentistry, Bio Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and other health sciences).

Part -A: Theory part (11 sessions of 1 hour each)

The theory part consists of selected key systems of Human Biology which include important system like Cells, Tissues, Circulatory system, Dentistry overview, Eye, ear, nose and Throat etc. Details of each session are in Table below. The topics are chosen to expose the young minds to the various fields of study available in Medicine and dentistry. The tutors are experienced in teaching Human biology and practising doctors and dentists. Right mix of audio-visual aids used.

Note: This course is not a substitute for Year-11 Human Biology (ATAR) subject.

 

Part -B: Practical part (12 sessions of 1 hour each)

The theory part above is reinforced by practical /Simulation class where students consolidate the learning in their mind in addition to gaining practical first aid skills under guidance of a Nationally Certified First Aid Trainer & Assessor.

 

First Aid certification

The Practical part is designed to allow the students earn their units of competency for the Nationally recognised First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation(CPR)   certificate in  first aid (HLTAID003)  and CPR (HLTAID00). Students will earn the Certificate (valid for 3 years) after completion of assessment. There is no additional charge for assessment or issue of certificate.

 

Part-C: Pre-UCAT (11 sessions of 1 hour each):

The program also has a bolt-on option of Pre-UCAT which will be very useful for students targeting high scores in all five tests of UCAT exam in their Year-12.

Recommended

For students in age group of 14-17 years in Year-11 or Year-10 or Year-9, thinking about a career in Medicine/Dentistry.
